The local area
L'Epine de la Messe is centrally located for the towns of Aubusson, world famous for its tapestries and Limoges, known for its fine porcelain and china.
A short drive away lies the 1000 hectare Lake Vassiviere, the second largest man made lake in Europe. Thirty miles in circumference, there are six man made sandy beaches and safe swimming areas.
The lake also has many restaurants and picnic areas.
On the lake itself you can windsurf, fish,birdwatching is a must, you can also have a meal on the restaurant boat which operates daily during the summer season.
There are many paths for ramblers and horseriders and excellent cycling routes, free from traffic.
Many of the routes in this area are used by the Tour de France, there is also a golf course not far from the lake.
Park d'arbre en arbre in Vassiviere is an adventure playground for children ( and adults) of all ages. Children under 16 must be supervised by an adult.
The plateau de Millvaches, a newly created national park in the Central Massif resort of Mont Dor, both offer spectaclular coutryside views, wonderful walks in the summer and plenty of skiing in the witer season, all making for a memorable stay. Wolf park.
The Loups de Chabrieres. The park is situated near Gueret, it is in the middle of a protected nature reserve. There are seven pens in the park which accomodate about 30 wolves of different origins. At certain times of the day you can watch them being fed.
Limoges
Limoges is famous for its beatiful porcelain. Visit the museum which was founded in 1845, and run from 1865 by Adrian Dubouche and he devoted part of his fortune to building up this wonderful collection.
